Enable Editable amount
We consider the functionality that enables editing the payment amount crucial for any modern payment platform. Therefore, we allow Merchants to enable such an option at Checkout to ensure their Customers have a complete and vivid payment experience.
Editable amount settings for Merchants
Enable editing the amount at Checkout:
- Go to Merchants and choose the Merchant account on the grid.
- Navigate to the Checkouts tab and select the Checkout you want to proceed with.
- Then, go to the Layout tab and scroll to the Payment section.
| Feature | Payment scenario | Workflow |
| Strictly | The Merchant does not need to enable the editing amount option. The fixed, predetermined amount at Checkout is enough for their payment procedure. | Click the Strictly option. The action remains the predetermined amount the same at Checkout without the ability to modify it in any way. |
| Editable | The Merchant is willing to establish an Editable amount at Checkout to grant the Customers greater flexibility in the payment process based on the specific business case. |
|
| Editable if insufficient | The Merchant needs to enable the Editable amount at Checkout to provide Customers with another way of finalising a payment if the first Commit wasn’t successful due to insufficient funds. |

Be careful while setting up Limits! It may affect the processing as the Provider rules might not coincide with the determined Limits.

Editable amount settings for Customers
Customer can:
- Manually edit the Payment amount if the Merchant enabled it either directly at Checkout or via a Payment Request.
- Use the provided presets to simplify their payment process. The chosen preset amount sums up with a prior amount of the Payment Request.
- Edit the amount while making the second try for a Payment Commit if the first attempt was unsuccessful due to insufficient account funds or the online payment limit has been reached. In such cases, editing is possible if the Merchant previously raised the Commits limit. Therefore, the Customer can enter the smaller amount and retry.
Use cases
1. Make donations
Donations often presuppose users deciding which amount they are ready to donate rather than accepting the fixed amount request. In that respect, users edit an input field value and enter any desired amount.
2. Top up your balance
The Editable amount feature applies to clients with wallets or account balances that may need to top up their balance with varying amounts based on their preferences or needs.
3. Help Customers modify the amount
The common case that requires editing the amounts is when the payment might not be finalised if the account balance of the particular Customer cannot cover the requested amount at Checkout. It also applies to situations where the online payment limit is reached. For this reason, the Editable amount comes in handy and allows the Customer to lower the amount and retry.
4. Allow Customers to adapt the amount if their funds are insufficient
Another case when the amount modification might be useful is when the Customer makes the Payment Commit and discovers they do not have enough funds to cover the given sum. Thus, it is crucial to allow the Customer to alter the amount and finalise the payment during the second Commit.
